Senior girls basketball captain Courtney Brochu organized a fundraiser during the North Kingstown basketball doubleheader on January 5, 2026. The North Kingstown Athletic Department was proud to host this event in support of an outstanding cause, raising funds for families in need at Hasbro Children’s Hospital.
Courtney chose Hasbro because of her passion for working with children and her future goal of majoring in nursing and becoming a pediatric nurse practitioner. This project allowed her to combine her love for helping children with her passion for basketball.

North Kingstown High School proudly hosted the annual Hiebner Cup last night, bringing together the Wickford and Davisville Middle School wrestling teams for a spirited in-town rivalry under "the light".
Established over a decade ago, the Hiebner Cup honors the legacy of Coach Stephen Hiebner, whose dedication and leadership played a monumental role in building and strengthening the middle school wrestling programs in North Kingstown. Following a courageous battle with cancer, Coach Hiebner passed away in October 2017, but his impact on the wrestling community continues to be felt.
This event is held each year with great respect and purpose—to unite both middle school programs, provide student-athletes the opportunity to compete in a high school environment, and celebrate the wrestling culture that Coach Hiebner helped create.
Thank you to all the coaches, parents, and student-athletes who attended and contributed to another memorable and meaningful Hiebner Cup.
Congratulation to WMS for taking the cup home for the first time!

Special Olympics International has announced that North Kingstown High School, a school with Special Olympics Unified Champion School® programming, is receiving national banner recognition for its efforts to provide inclusive sports and activities for students with and without intellectual disabilities. North Kingstown High School is receiving this distinguished status as a result of meeting 10 national standards of excellence in the areas of inclusion, advocacy, and respect. A national panel of leaders from Special Olympics and the education community developed these standards. The primary activities within these standards include sports, leadership, and whole school engagement opportunities for students with and without intellectual disabilities. The result is a school environment that promotes inclusion and respect for all, providing students with and without disabilities the opportunity to build positive relationships and foster a socially inclusive school climate. National banner schools should also demonstrate they are self-sustainable or have a plan in place to sustain these activities into the future.
We are incredibly proud that North Kingstown High School has been recognized as a National Unified Champion School. This honor reflects the dedication of our students, staff, and families in creating an inclusive environment where every student is valued, respected, and given opportunities to succeed—both on and off the field. “This recognition from Special Olympics International speaks to the heart of what makes North Kingstown so special—our unwavering commitment to inclusion, compassion, and community,” stated Dr. Duva, Superintendent of North Kingstown School Department. “Our students lead by example, showing what it truly means to celebrate differences and build a school culture of respect and belonging.” This national banner recognition aligns perfectly with our district’s vision to ensure that all students grow academically, socially, and emotionally in an environment that embraces diversity and respect. North Kingstown High School’s commitment to inclusion is a model for what education should be—a place where every student feels they belong. This is an honor for the North Kingstown School District and a celebration will be planned in the near future where a National Unified Champion School banner will be presented to the North Kingstown High School community.
